Our
Story

Thomas “The Greek” Maglaris started reconditioning football equipment in the early 1960’s out of his shoe repair shop.  As his business evolved, he began what is known as Mercury Sports in 1966.  Tommy passed away in 2004 and the business was sold to three friends who have lifelong interest in sports.

The new owners joined NAERA (National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association) and began recertifying football helmets as a NOCSAE Licensed Reconditioner in 2004.  Along with reconditioning, they ventured into team sports sales and retail sales.

Darren Cato purchased his partners out in 2020 and simplified the business, getting back to the basics – football equipment reconditioning and new football equipment sales.  Darren is a former football player and head high school football coach, helping him to understand what coaches want and need.

We currently service schools and programs throughout the United States.  Quality of our product and customer service are equally top priorities.  Mercury Sports, located in Evansville Indiana, is proud to do all of our work in-house.  This gives us immediate access to your order information.  We work with regional team sports dealers, local and regional schools and programs, and individuals.

For 57 years we have been proud to be “made in America”.  Our perseverance as a reconditioner continues to help us service the football world.  Our promise to you is that we will treat your helmet(s) as we would treat our own children’s.
